On The Spot: Should UCBA Go Smokeless?
For this issue, we asked students whether the UCBA campus should be entirely smoke free.
Terrence Padgett
I believe that everyone should be able to smoke in the designated areas. As students, we are all aware of the damages that smoking poses to our health. However, that doesn't give anyone the right or authority to ban a practice granted to tax paying citizens just because you don't want to be around it. Be smart. If you don't like the smoke, take a different route.
Dominick Mukasa
My standpoint on smoking on campus is uncertain. I know everyone has free will and should be able to smoke wherever, as long as it is outside the campus. At the same time I think smoking right outside of the campus in the front shouldn't be allowed. I say this because I'm sure the owners of this campus would like it to look professional, but with people standing out in front smoking, the school cannot maintain that look.
Stacey Sloan
Although I do not smoke, I feel that people should be able to take smoke breaks and smoke outside. I agree with the fact you can smoke outside, but I do not agree with how close the smoking area is to the rest of the building. I feel that the smoking area should be further away from the school building. Although there is no specific way to prevent inhaling smoke, it should be one designated spot to smoke.
Jasmine Doll
I really don't like being around smoking. It's gross and smells bad. Plus the smell attaches to your clothing. Also I think smoking shouldn't be allowed on campuses period.
