National Poetry Month at UCBA to Feature Poetry and Songwriting Contests
Are you interested in writing poetry or singing some of the wonderful songs you wrote? Well, here's your chance to make your voice heard.
During the months of March and April, UCBA will be celebrating National Poetry Month. This gives students the chance to be heard and show their talent to peers.
For the Seventh Annual Song Writing Contest, contestants must send their songs in both recorded form (on CD) and typewritten form (lyrics only). Then on a separate page, type the song titles, your name, address, phone number, email address (if you have one), and school or university affiliation.
The entry deadline is March 1. Winners will be announced later in March. Participants will be invited to perform their work on April 8, from 6-8 p.m., as part of the UCBA Poetry Café in Walters Hall Room 100. First Prize and one Honorable Mention will be awarded, and the winning lyrics will be published in The Blue Ash Review, the college literacy magazine.
For the College Poetry Contest, you can submit up to three of your own original poems, in any style or subject matter. The length per poem should be no more than one page. Submit two copies of each poem entered: one with name and contact information (address, email, cell phone or home phone), and one without contact information.
The deadline for this contest will also be March 1. Winners will receive a prize and also be published in the Blue Ash Review. Participants will be featured in the 2013 Poetry Café on April 8, 6-8 p.m.
All work should be submitted to Professor Rhonda Pettit, Department of English and Communication, University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College, 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash, Ohio 45236. You may also deliver your entries in person to Room 132 Walters Hall.
These contests are not the only things happening during poetry month. On Friday, March 8, there will be a free performance of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" by the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Muntz Auditorium. Reservations are required.
Students may also attend the Poetry Café and listen to the featured participants and also enjoy free music and food.
For more information, contact Professor Rhonda Pettit at rhonda.pettit@uc.edu or 513-745-8319). For Shakespeare reservations contact Debbie Thomayer at debbie.thomayer@uc.edu or 513-745-5655.
