Review: iPad Is Just a Giant iTouch
Apple rarely disappoints, as many of their products change the world of technology. With the new iPad though, I must say I'm a little disappointed. The iPad came out in early April, and to no surprise sold out very quickly and is still sold out at the time of this review. The iPad comes in six different formats, including 16, 32, or 64 gigabyte wi-fi hard drives. You can also get any of those three formats with the 3G network (from AT&T) and wi-fi.
The sharp screen almost comes to a complete ten inches, making for any viewing of a video in almost perfect quality. The touch screen is always fun, making for a fast, effortless navigation as you can set the screen straight up or turn it to its side, and the screen will match the angle at which it's being viewed.
With all the well put together specifications, it does have its problems, however. First off, you don't get any Microsoft Word software to type documents, which is a shame because the onscreen keyboard is really neat. While it doesn't come pre-loaded with Word software, there are rumors of being able to buy a Word program off the application store.
I'm also a little disappointed there isn't a DVD drive allowing you to watch DVDs and upload personal music from your own collection. While some of this can be done by hooking your iPad up to another laptop or desktop, it can be a little annoying and kind of defeat the purpose of having this personal computer in the first place.
While these may seem like little problems, they can add up, making you just want to go back to your laptop or desktop.
When all is said and done, the iPad is a giant iTouch or iPhone, minus the phone calls. There really isn't anything new here, except the bigger screen that makes this more of a toy than an actual productive computer.
While it can be fun at times, it's mainly for the Internet, not really allowing much else. With the cheapest model being roughly 500 dollars, it can be a fun way to spend some extra cash and can actually be a good time.
But my advice is either to buy an iTouch or wait a while until Apple puts out the next generation of iPads, which I'm sure will be a huge improvement, as they are always ahead of the game.
