Library adds staff member and discontinues online chat service
There is a new staff member in the RWC Library, Tamra Manger. She is responsible for both traditional reserves and electronic reserves in addition to regular service at the Circulation Desk. She has shared her services in school libraries and, according to RWC Librarian Heather Maloney, brings much knowledge and enthusiasm to the RWC Library. Heather Maloney will continue to assist with reserves.The University of Cincinnati is ceasing to offer its "Talk To A Librarian" service after December 21. As part of the service, which had been offered for the past five years, librarians from 40 different Ohio libraries were taking turns, through OhioLINK, in providing online research assistance to students and faculty from OhioLINK's member colleges. According to Maloney, more than 52,000 chat sessions were conducted since 2002 when the program began. However, due to declining use, there was a re-examination of the service.
Ohio supports a live online reference service called KnowItNow, which operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week http://www.knowitnow.org. KnowItNow is a service of the State Library of Ohio and local public libraries. An academic service is being added to the program. More information will be announced as it becomes available.
