College Offers Free Technology Workshops

On November 27, 2013

UCBA offers a variety of free technology training workshops to help students, faculty and staff to increase their technology skills and broaden their software knowledge horizons.
Students can advance their computer skills before they graduate to be prepared for today's difficult job market and increasingly competitive admission to graduate and professional schools.
The UCBA workshops are held in the campus computer labs, are all hands-on, and usually last an hour to an hour-and-half. For convenience, the workshops are offered on various days in the afternoons and also in the evenings.
Normally, they occur in the second, third, and fourth week of each semester, and sometimes later during the semester based on student needs. Look for the flyers posted around the College in various places.
Dates are publicized on the display screens in the hallways and in the computer lab, in "Thursday's News," on Facebook and Twitter, and possibly in the Activist. Students will also receive an email from UCBA announcing the dates.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for each training. Students should check with their professors to see if they are offering extra credit for attending one or more of the workshops.
These workshops will cover various topics, including the following:
• Blackboard Learning System and UC Email (The programs students use to interact with their professors, retrieve all class information, submit homework assignments, and possibly take tests from anywhere using the Internet).
• Computer/Web/Microsoft Word Basics (Get familiar with the computer systems at UCBA, find out about many useful academic sites to study, and the Word 2013 program to type papers).
• Microsoft Excel Basics (Many classes require analysis of data and presention in chart form, produced by Excel).
• Microsoft PowerPoint Basics (Learn how to create electronic slides for slide shows and visual presentations in class).
