Christmas In November...Seriously?
The other day I went to the Kenwood Mall, and I was a little shocked to find that they already had their Christmas décor up.
Don't get me wrong. I love Christmas. It's my favorite holiday—but seriously? We just got done with Halloween. It was only November 3 when I was at the Mall, and Thanksgiving is still weeks away.
What's the rush? Christmas isn't going anywhere. It's like the people at the mall started decorating the second Halloween was over right at midnight, November 1. At least wait a week or two after Halloween before decorating for Christmas.
They even had Santa's chair ready for pictures. No, Santa wasn't there but everything was ready so he could have walked in at any time. Some of the stores even had their Christmas music playing, and I feel bad for those employees.
I'm not a Grinch; I love Christmas music, but let's face it; there are only so many Christmas songs. Even if the songs are sung by different people, they're still the same songs with the same words, and you can only take so much of it.
And what about Thanksgiving? Sometimes I feel like Thanksgiving gets overlooked because everybody is so worried about Christmas.
Walking around the mall, I could tell people were already out Christmas shopping. They were the ones rushing around with, at least, a bag in each hand. Thanksgiving is America's holiday. In some ways I think it's more important than Christmas.
Again, I am not a Grinch by any means, but I think society needs to slow down and focus on the "right now" holiday and right now that holiday is Thanksgiving.
Time is moving too fast anyway, and the sooner Christmas comes the sooner it's over and gone. So let's slow down getting into the Christmas spirit and get into the spirit of Thanksgiving. Enjoy the American holiday with family and friends and then get into the Christmas spirit, after eating your weight in turkey and mashed potatoes.
