Exhibit and Lecture to Highlight National Humanities Month

By James Crawford
On September 24, 2012

In October, UCBA will celebrate National Arts and Humanities month with a variety of activities, including an exhibit of portraits, called "Americans Who Tell the Truth," by Robert Shetterly, in Muntz hallway, and an essay contest related to the exhibit.
Shetterly will also be on campus to give a lecture, Wednesday, October 3, from 7-9 p.m., in Muntz Auditorium. Prior to the lecture, there will be a choral performance by MUSE-Cincinnati's Women's Choir. A reception will follow.
To enter the essay contest, you can write a 500-word essay that describes and comments on one or two of Shetterly's portraits and reflects on his lecture. In the essay you should include a discussion of what ideas get your attention and why; what his work has to do with telling the truth; and whether his ideas are important now and why.
All essays must be typed and double-spaced, in 12-point font. You can email it as an MS Word attachment or submit a hard copy. There are separate submission categories for UCBA students and OLLI students.
The winners will get published in the Blue Ash Review and awarded prizes. The deadline to turn in your essay is November 1. The "Americans Who Tell the Truth" art exhibit is open from October 3-31. All events are open to the general public and free of charge.
For more information, or to submit your essay, contact Dr. Rhonda Pettit (132 Walters; Rhonda.pettit@uc.edu), Dr. Andrea Kornbluh (347 Muntz; andrea.kornbluh@uc.edu), or your English, History, FYE, or Liberal Arts professor.
