Students to present posters related to service learning projects
UCBA holding student expo to showcase students’ community work
For the first time in its history, UCBA (formerly Raymond Walters College) will hold a service-learning student expo to showcase students' community service projects. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held Thursday, April 19 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Muntz Hall lobby.
According to professor Angie Woods, "Although many of our students are working in the community as part of a service-learning course component, we seldom know, college-wide, what they have been doing. This expo is designed as an opportunity for students and the general public to see the good work that our students are accomplishing in the community."
Woods continues, "Additionally, it's a celebration of our students' service-learning work, in which students combine reflection with participation in community-based projects." The goal of service-learning components is for the student to gain a richer mastery of course content, enhance their sense of civic responsibility, and ultimately develop a more integrated approach to understanding the relationship between theory, practice, ideas, values, and community.
Students will present poster summaries and be on-hand to explain their projects throughout the duration of the event. For more information, visit http://www.uc.edu/propractice/service-learning.html
