My World: Shuttle Problems
Everyone has been late to a class, or even missed one, and usually, the student is at fault. You lost track of time, woke up late, or could just be having a terrible day. At the beginning of the year, I was late to almost every class that didn't follow directly behind another one. What did I have to blame, you may ask? The UC shuttle system.
I don't want to be misunderstood. I am very grateful for the transportation provided to and from the Blue Ash campus. However, if I'm always going to be late, I would much rather drive.
There are only two shuttles that run the Blue Ash route, which makes catching one very difficult at certain times. The shuttles are very small, allowing seating only for about twenty students, and if there is no seat available, you have to wait the next 30 to 45 minutes (sometimes an hour) to catch the next one.
That can be hard to accomplish when there are 30 plus students who are all trying to make it on time to class. Unless you are an assertive and pushy individual, you aren't going to make it to class on time.
The University has a mobile web app called the Shuttle Tracker, but there have been several times that it has not been accurate. You may look at the tracker one moment, and it may say that you have 7-9 minutes until your shuttle comes. Five minutes later, you could look again, and it may say that you now have 45 minutes until the next one arrives. That is frustrating and could potentially cause problems within the classroom.
Finally, I think that the university should add another Blue Ash shuttle to the route and work on the technology that we're using to make the tracker more accurate and reliable. Changes will be greatly appreciated, not just by me, but also by my peers who use it as well.
