Writing and Study Skills Lab Reaches Out to Students
Although there are several useful programs offered here at UCBA, there is one that is often overlooked: the Writing and Study Skills Lab.
The lab, which is located in 112K in Muntz, offers assistance to students in a wide variety of fields. At the Writing Lab, tutors offer assistance in all phases of writing papers including but not limited to understanding a particular assignment, brainstorming ideas, and editing a final draft. The writing tutors are skilled in both helping students to complete a paper in all genres and classes, and to help them generate the knowledge necessary for writing.
The Study Skills Lab tutors offer assistance in different methods of studying. There are 15 different workshops offered in the lab including time management, note-taking, reading and understanding textbooks, managing stress/test anxiety, and setting goals. The tutors can also assist students in test reviewing and help improve students with test taking skills. Also, Snippets, a weekly newsletter available in the lab, offers students advice on study strategies and academic expectations.
Services offered in the lab are free to all UCBA students. While walk-ins are welcome, scheduling appointments is highly recommended. Appointments can be set up through Starfish via Blackboard and underneath the "My Success Network" tab. Each 30-60 minute session features one-on-one tutoring.
