BCS Adopting the 'Final Four' System?
Deliberators conclude that more meetings are needed
Could the BCS finally see a playoff game? One day after the Alabama Crimson Tide's 21-0 thrashing over the LSU Tigers, BCS (Bowl Championship System) Executive Director, Bill Hancock, stated that 50 to 60 possibilities and ideas were deliberated in a meeting. Many people believe that a playoff games will in fact "fix" the very corrupt system we have now. It's known to be a system that cheats out a team that has national title implications, but yet still settles for a lesser bowl bid.
Hancock and other deliberators have come to a conclusion that it'll easily take more than one meeting to reach a decision. They anticipate 5 to 7 meetings on a course to reach a decision as early as July of this year. It seems probable that we'll see a 4 game playoff system, rather than a much larger "Sweet 16" approach. "
Moving towards a 16-team playoff is highly problematic because I think that's too much to ask a young man's body to do. It's too many games, it intrudes into the school year and, of course, it would probably necessitate a complete end to a bowl system that so many people like now", NCAA President Mark Emmert stated during his annual state of the association speech. With a four team playoff system, the most deserving team would get a shot at the National Title. Something the Boise States, TCUs, Utahs, and the Oklahoma Statess of the college football world would surely appreciate. These teams and many others know a little too much of what it feels like to be so close but yet so far away to National Championship. If decisions are to be made by July of this year, a new playoff system could be in effect as soon as the 2014 season. "I see a lot of ways a Final Four model could be successful", Emmert said.
