My World: Grieving for Freddy E. and Others Like Him
My friend Frederick E. Buhl (Freddy E) killed himself on January 5 of this year. It made me realize that even those who are surrounded by people they love or basically have anything they could possibly want can also be lonely or depressed.
I still don't know why he did it. His birthday was on January 1, so it could have been drugs or anything, but whatever the reason, it must have been killing him inside to make him do something like this.
I didn't find out about his death until the day after. I didn't want to believe it so I went to his Twitter page and found his photo with a gun to his head.
His parents later during the week deleted his Twitter account.
Freddy was making his way towards fame. He had a YouTube channel called "JerkTV," where he would do comedy skits and spoken word. The guy would get around 100k views on the majority of his videos. He also did a little bit of rapping, and he was pretty good.
All around the guy was very talented. It's sad to see young talented people take their own life, especially when they have so much to bring to the table.
I'm not just grieving for my friend's death, but for all the teens who think it's okay to take their own life because society is screwed up.
No one ever takes the time to sit down and listen to the depressed. They think it's for attention, but when things turn for the worst, society once again "didn't see the signs."
The problem with society (that's us) is that we give too much attention to people who do stupid things. I'll pitch out an example. A girl instantly becomes famous because she ate her own bloody tampon. As gross as this sounds, the lady immediately gained over 100k followers on Twitter.
A thing like that is exactly what gets me. We look at the goofiest and stupidest thing and boost it up for the rest of the audience to see.
Every 18 minutes someone dies of suicide, and every 40 seconds someone attempts suicide. A lot of teens commit suicide for another major factor too-bullying. This really needs to end. People get bullied over dumb things like being gay or just being different.
I still get looked at weird because of the way I dress. There are a lot of people who would walk up to me and say, "I wouldn't wear that because I can't pull it off, but I like the way you dress because it's different."
I try to kick down doors for kids to feel free to wear whatever they want; you know, something that isn't really in the urban community criteria. People think being different is "gay," weird is "gay," or if it's something that isn't really seen and accepted by society, it's "gay."
Until people learn to become mature and stop such ignorant and negative thinking, society will never change.
I just wanted to share my story with you. By the way, I hardly check my email, but I use Twitter a lot. You can reach me @DeejaySoAmazin, and my other Twitter account I use to fight against teen suicide @ToTheTeensThat.
I get paid for both Twitter accounts, so feel free to send your thoughts to me.
