2014 Study Abroad Offerings to Visit Britain, France, and Quebec

In the summer of 2014, UC Blue Ash College is offering two different study abroad programs for students to pick from.  One will be a four-week program in Britain open to everyone, and the other will be a French language and culture program in Quebec, open only to students with at least one year of college-level French or the equivalent.
The British program, which will cost approximately $3,900 plus tuition, will offer students an opportunity to take a literature class on American expatriate writers who lived in Paris and London between the world wars, taught by Professor Sue Sipple, and/or an Electronic Media class on media and culture, taught by Professor Eric Anderson.
The program will be based, as it is every year, at Harlaxton Manor, in the British Midlands.  Students and faculty will live together in the exotic 100-room manor, built in the 1830s by an eccentric British bachelor named Gregory Gregory.  The manor, which is owned by the University of Evansville, provides complete living, dining, and classroom facilities, including free internet and Wi-Fi
From there, other activities will include an overnight trip to Manchester, where students will visit BBC headquarters.  After two weeks at Harlaxton, the group will head to London for several nights.  Field trips there will include the Imperial War Museum, Westminster Abbey, the BBC, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and other exciting spots.
Next, the group will head to Paris for several nights, where they will visit many of the favorite places of American expatriate writers, including museums, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, Montparnasse, Luxembourg Gardens, the Left Bank, and other places.
After Paris, the group will return to Harlaxton for a few more days before concluding the program. For more information on the British Program courses and itinerary, contact Professor Sue Sipple at sipplesm@ucmail.uc.edu or Professor Eric Anderson at eric.anderson@uc.edu.  For questions about the application process and financial aid, contact Professor Mike Roos at roosme@ucmail.uc.edu.
The Quebec Program, which will cost approximately $2,000 plus UCBA tuition, offers a unique opportunity to study the French language and culture in the largest Francophone population outside of France.
A unique advantage students will have in this program is that it is led by Professor Jody Ballah, who is Canadian.  Her native perspective will surely add to the educational experience.  The students will take language classes in the morning and have the opportunity to spend afternoons and weekends exploring the city and its surroundings.
The program offers students a once in a lifetime experience by making use of excursions, walking tours, and cultural activities, as well as reading and reflective time.
For more information on the Quebec program and prerequisites, contact Professor Jody Ballah at jody.ballah@uc.edu.
The application deadline for both programs is November 15, 2013.  There are several opportunities for financial aid to substantially reduce the cost of both programs.
