Writing Center Now Offers Skype Tutoring
If you are looking for a tutor in writing but are lacking in time, the UCBA Writing Center has a solution. Through Skype tutoring, students have the option to get the same help they originally receive in the Writing Center directly from home.
Skype tutoring is beneficial to those who have a long commute to UCBA, those who work, or those who simply don't have enough time in the day.
It is a convenient and accommodating way for students to go over and discuss one-on-one any kind of paper they may be working on in any discipline, and then receive tips and strategies from a UCBA Writing tutor.
Tutors also use Google Doc, which is a way to share the computer screen with the student and leave side notes and corrections that can be fixed on their paper. This is also available through Microsoft Word.
Eric Van Hoose is one of the three writing tutors currently paired up with Skype tutoring. He has been working in the Writing Center for three years now, and he explained how important it is to help create more availability for students who can't always come in for an in-person session. The other Writing tutors who can be contacted through Skype are Peggy Strohmaier and Laurie Bailer.
Students must schedule an appointment for Skype tutoring (an easy process through StarFish, found on Blackboard). Then, under My Success Network, students must select "Show Services" and then find UCBA Writing Tutoring.
After selecting the date and time, students must select" Skype Appointment" under "Add Appointment," and choose a tutor as well. Then when the scheduled time arrives, students may call their tutor's Skype name, which will be given to them.
