Fantasy Football Booming

It happens every year in the middle of August. A large part of the male population, and some females even, become consumed by a little thing called Fantasy Football.
Each league meets before the NFL season kicks off and holds a mock draft, where participants select the players they hope to use to their advantage to win the big prize.
Some groups do it for fun, but some do it for money. According to UCBA freshman Matt Landy, he can win $500 if his team comes out on top. "Each player paid $50 to join the league and if you win, all that money comes back to you at the end of the season," said Landy. "It's definitely worth it."
Naming your fantasy team can even be a process. With names such as CSI Hernandez, Mile High Manning and Gisele's Bundchens, naming your team can often be the most difficult part, since everyone wants to be original and humorous.
Playing fantasy football can be extremely time consuming. Each week you have to decide which players to start and which players to bench. Then of course you have to keep up with them throughout the week to see how many points they earn you.
According to Landy, "I usually spend around 5-6 hours a week on my fantasy team. That doesn't include watching the football games on Sunday, Monday and Thursday night either."
ESPN has an App that does this for you, which has certainly made this an easier process for people involved.
ESPN isn't the only network getting in on fantasy football. The FX network has a hit show called "The League," which is all about a group of friends who all play in the same fantasy league.
With things such as this show and copious amounts of money on the line, playing fantasy football has become even more popular this year.
