Letter to the Editor

On November 17, I was on the [UC Blue Ash] campus for an appointment with the Dental Clinic. I picked up the edition of the November 14 Activist. I found your newspaper to be an entertaining, yet informative piece of literature. However, my opinion changed after I read the Feature Student article.

The picture used of Brittany Walker seems to be of poor choice. Not only is the photographer shooting "down her shirt," but the picture captured an expression which signifies disgust. This picture seems to be one that is found on Facebook or a social web site. Not only does this signify a lack of professionalism within the paper, but serves to support a sexist mentality. Furthermore, the featured student could have been portrayed in a more positive aspect. I assume this article was meant for recognition and introduction to the student body. Is this the way she wants to be remembered? I wish to add, I am not the only person who voiced this opinion.

I am a mother of girls, as well as a senior English major at NKU. This article really speaks badly of the editing staff at the Activist. It would be advisable to address these issues, since this paper is available for all who walk the halls of [UCBA]. Please consider this to be honest criticism. Writing is an art which is meant to be shared with all, but when a picture of this caliber is released, one feels compelled to put the paper down. Come on, you can do better than that!
