Feature Student: Aimee McLean's "Aim-azing" dedication

By Cindy Miller
On March 5, 2007

Aimee McLean is a dedicated student at RWC and a very loving single mom of two kids. She has accomplished much at RWC and many other places, including serving as both RWC Student Government President and a University of Cincinnati Student Senator. She has also involved herself with numerous RWC and UC committees, including the RWC College Governance Committee, RWC Self-Study for Reaccredidation Steering Committee, and the RWC Decanal Penultimate Review Committee, just to name a few. I'm tired already.

She has served as an orientation leader for both traditional and non-traditional students. Aimee herself is a non-traditional student, which basically means that she has done several things in her life before going back to school to complete her education.

Aimee loves her classes and Student Government participation and finds it all very rewarding and enjoyable. She likes having the ability to help other students and learn at the same time. She also takes the time to work in the Disability Services Office when she can. She is a note-taker for the office in several classes.

As one of her friends said, she is very "dedicated and tireless." Aimee's children really understand her dedication, and they appreciate, from her example, that homework is important. Aimee is very serious about her education. She, like Sarah Fasce, our last feature student, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and she is also in the UC Honors Scholars Program.

She is studying Liberal Arts and has won an award for outstanding achievement in Physics. She is even on the National Dean's List.

Before she joined the RWC Community, Aimee was a Key Volunteer Coordinator for the U.S. Marine Corps and a supervising tutor at a community college in Arizona. She also worked for Children's World Daycare Centers in Maryland and Virginia. And she worked in Michigan in a hospital ER. Before all this, she served her country in the U.S. Air Force. (Another warm shout-out to our men and women of the armed forces who continually sacrifice and fight for our country. We couldn't do it without you.)

Aimee is passionate about family, and this is what has continually driven her to succeed. She often visits her family in Illinois. She is dedicated to improve the lives of others. She works for student, faculty and staff-related issues. She has proven time and time again that she is able to handle any challenge that presents itself. Along with recognition from various other universities, last year she was honored as the RWC Student of the Year. Wow! We can learn a lot from her example.

Final note: I want to thank everyone who has participated in being a Feature Student this quarter. You are all awesome.
