Laurie Bailar Joins Writing Center Staff
Laurie Bailar is the newest member of the UCBA Writing Center staff. She is a writing tutor. A recent graduate from the University of Idaho, Bailar moved to Cincinnati about three months ago to begin a life with her husband and his new career.
Bailar has a degree in English and enjoys working at UCBA. Her job is specifically to help students who are interested in getting feedback and help on any kind of writing they may be doing, at any stage. This includes specific papers, journal posts, and even small assignments.
The goal of all staff members at Writing Center is to focus on helping students develop the skills and knowledge to be able to find and fix mistakes on their own and also improve writing overall.
"Writing doesn't come easy. You have to work at it," Bailar said. "It's a skill set, and anyone can learn those skills. It's not limited to those who have a pre-set aptitude."
Bailar said she enjoys getting to know students through individual tutoring and discovering each student's writing style. Seeing progress come from their hard work is also something she likes to see. Bailar also enjoys the diversity here compared to the small Idaho town she came from.
For tutorial help, students may bring a prompt or a draft of a paper. They can even get help with brainstorming. Appointments with any Writing Center tutor can be made through StarFish, found on Blackboard.
