I am currently a junior high STEM teacher but I have an extensive background in the study of French and in business. I am a great advocate of teaching correct pronunciation at the beginning of a student's studies to avoid developing bad habits which will be difficult to break later on. My experience has been that an American who speaks correct French will be much more readily accepted by francophones (particularly the French) than those who even speak fluent French.
