College is an Investment
The other the day I was talking to faculty member from OneStop and we were discussing the new rules that will be set in place. New rules that will be set in place here at UCBA. Apparently, new students that want to attend UCBA with a GPA under a 2.0 will be put on academic probation upon entering their desired program. This rule will be set in place because there are a large amount of students who have came to UCBA with low grades from high school and are still performing poorly while in college.
Personally, I think that this is a good idea simply because a lot of people coming from high school come to college because they feel like they have to. While in high school most people are only given four options: sign up for the military, learn a trade, start working, or go to college. Well, a lot of people don’t want to go to the military because of the rules and you know, that whole “risking your life” sort of thing; some people wouldn’t mind doing a trade but they’re really only offered for certain fields such as, beauty, construction, or technology but not everyone wants to go into those fields; and many people don’t want to just start a career right out of high school because it’s risky. Without proper training or education it’s hard to get and keep a job which works well when you leave college; all you have to do is sign up to a bunch of schools and at least one of them will accept you right?
I’m a firm believer in the idea that college isn’t for everyone and that some people just need some time to explore their options. Even if college is for you, you might not be ready for it right after high school. College is an investment and when making investments, you need to be able to make mature decisions and some of us just aren’t as mature as our parents would like us to be. Now, I’m not saying that those who decide not to go to college aren’t mature. I’m saying that some of the ones who want to go just simply aren’t ready yet and have some growing to do. The takeaway from this decision is to encourage those that you know to do well in high school no matter what they choose to do once they graduate. Whether you decide to go to college or not,
