Movies: "Mama" Succeeds as a Thriller
The thriller movie "Mama" was just recently released on January 18. Starring Jessica Chastain as Annabel and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Lucas, the movie is about two young girls who lost their dad and mom when they were little to a demon spirit.
The girls Victoria (Megan Charpentier) and Lily (Isabelle Nelisse) were left alone in a cabin in the woods at the age of three and one. The demon cared for the girls as if she were their own mom until later they were rescued by their dad's brother, Uncle Luke, who sent two search people to find them.
The girls were found starving, with very animalistic traits. For months they were in a hospital being taught how to act like a human again. Later on they were released to Uncle Luke and Annabel to go live in a huge house that was given to them.
Just at the start of giving the girls a new life, the demon spirit known as Mama lives in the house with the girls and haunts their loved ones. Mama will not go away until she gets what she wants.
This movie is actually really good. It is full of suspense. It is not necessarily scary but creepy, and to me the creepiness of the movie matters the most.
After seeing it, I went home and was still thinking about it. That's how creepy it is.
If you have not yet seen "Mama," you need to before it leaves theaters. I would give it a rating of four stars out of five.
