Fashion: Let's Talk About Leggings And Other Winter Woes

With winter fast approaching, people are slowly beginning to shift their wardrobe so they can bear the cold grip of Old Man Winter.

Fashion-wise, winter is my least favorite season. It isn't easy to dress practically and also look cute. It's a difficult tightrope to walk. The big shocker? Even I haven't perfected it yet.

You know me, I'm willing to freeze in 30 degree weather if I really like my outfit that day. Mildly psychotic? Maybe. But I prefer to call it commitment to my craft. In any case, here are some fashion tips to help you brave the cold.

Let's talk about leggings, ladies. Leggings are a wonderful invention. They look great and, depending on the fabric, are great for keeping your legs warm.

But I, as always, have a bone to pick. I'm tired of seeing girls wearing leggings as pants, especially in the winter. Let's break it down, shall we?

Leggings, as the name suggests, are made to accentuate your legs. Not, your butt. The ugly truth? Leggings are usually too tight on the derriere, or, more likely, not tight enough. Seriously, ladies. If you wear leggings, wear them with shorts or a skirt. They are not pants.

Pea coats, gentlemen? Do it. They're very in this season. Pea coats are great; they're classy and comfortable. Trust me, I know. I bought one at H and M the other day, for a very reasonable price, which is often difficult to find.

But, if you can find one for a good price, it's a great investment. Just make sure that it fits you well, because you don't want to get one that makes you look bulkier than you actually are.

A couple more things, dears. Don't you dare let me see you wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. Seriously, leave those for ugly Christmas sweater parties. I don't want to see anyone wearing a knitted sweater with a little red light bulb for Rudolph's nose. Don't give me the whole "I'm just spreading Christmas cheer" excuse. Have some pride, people.

Also, stray away from putting green and red together this time of year. Frankly, I've never seen someone pull it off without looking tacky (and this includes myself). So, if you need to do it, just make sure you let one color take the lead—for instance, a red dress with a green bracelet and some emerald earrings. Just be careful and keep it tasteful.

Until next time, stay classy. Stay stylish. This is Josh Newman, signing off.
