Music: Tulsa's Safetysuit is a Powerful New Band
Safetysuit, a pop/rock band with a lot of heart, got their start in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but are currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. The band began their career in 2002 and were later discovered and signed by Universal Records in 2005.
Four artists make up the band: Doug Brown (vocals, rhythm guitar), Dave Garofalo (guitar), Jeremy Henshaw (bass), and Tate Cunningham (drums).
Collectively, these artists produce powerful music, where each member is an absolute necessity. This includes Doug Brown's strong and infamous voice, unlike very many others in music.
Back in 2008, Safetysuit introduced their first full-length album, Life Left to Go, which included two previously released singles. "Someone Like You" was known for its acoustic version, which reached #5 on Billboard's Top Heartseekers Chart, and "Stay," which achieved success on Billboard Charts in 2009.
After time spent touring, the band released their second album, These Times, in 2012. This album also released two singles beforehand: "Get Around This" and "Let Go."
In my opinion, it seems this band's goal is to cause listeners to feel their songs, not just hear them. Disregarding all of the obvious love songs (which are still very beautiful), their other tracks can be taken in many different ways.
"Gone Away" (found on Life Left to Go) is based on someone who needs a release from the weight of reality, and many listeners can relate to that. "Believe" (found on These Times) is one of my favorites, because of its powerful reminder that after all the times someone gets kicked down, it takes self-belief and encouragement from others to get back up and keep going.
Safetysuit is a band I feel deserves to have their voices heard much more; listeners will not be disappointed.
