UC Smiles!
Smiles smile galore when the North College Hill students come to the UCBA campus. On May 7th students in the Dental Hygiene Department will be cleaning teeth, taking x-rays, administering fluoride, and teaching oral hygiene to the children of North College Hill. This event also provides the middle school students with a sneak peak of college life as they will have a tour of our campus and get to experience some hands-on activities.
Two of the UCBA departments that the North College Hill students will see are Biology and Veterinary Technology. In addition to being exposed to excellent dental hygiene care, these students will also receive the opportunity to see a college campus. Hopefully this visit will provide them with more information about UCBA as a whole.
In addition to the UC Smiles event at UCBA on May 7th the students in the Dental Hygiene Department will be taking their clinical board examinations on May 18th in the UCBA dental hygiene clinic. The board examination is a regional test that permits the students to apply for licensure in a variety of states. In this test there are two main parts: written examination and clinical examination. The clinical exam requires students to bring in patients from the community to test their skills that they have acquired over the years.
For all of you in the community that do not know, the Dental Hygienist students take appointments for you to get your teeth cleaned, fluoride treatments, x-rays for the teeth, and much more. These are done by first- and second-year Dental Hygiene students, and let me tell you they do a great job! If you are 3-15 the cost is $15.00, 16-64 years old is $20.00, and 65+ years is $10.00 (some fees are not included in these prices). For more information please go to the Dental Hygiene website at http://www.ucblueash.edu/dentalhygiene/clinic.html.
Both of these events that are happening will be a great experience for everyone in the community and also on campus.
