Music: Atlas Genius Lives Up to the Hype
Having heard of Atlas Genius for the first time about a month ago, I wasn't sure what to expect from their show at Bogarts in Cincinnati on Tuesday, September 24. There was a lot of hype about the band on the Internet, but was it all worth it?
Going in with a completely open mind, I can honestly say that, at the end of the night, the Aussie rockers left their hearts and souls on the stage.
After emerging from the glow of ultraviolet lights and a cloud of fog, the band performed their debut album, "When It Was Now," in its entirety.
"We're happy to be back in Cincinnati," front man Keith Jeffery announced to the crowd after opening the set with the track "On a Day" and playing through their latest single, "If So."
"We missed you!" an excited crowd member quickly shouted.
Jeffery quickly chuckled and smiled before stating that it had only been two months since the band first played in the city.
Witnessing the show was like sitting through a live jam session; everything was fun and relaxed, the crowd was heavily involved, and the music was great.
The highlight of the show came in the middle of the set while the band performed "Back Seat."
"I'll sell you a feeling," Jeffery crooned into his microphone before hopping into the crowd to perform an extended outro and instrumental jam.
The only factor working against the show was a minor technical mishap that involved guitar amps going out at random parts of songs. Some frustration was apparent on the faces of the band members, particularly Jeffery, but he continued to play through it all and fans continued to dance and sing along.
Atlas Genius closed the night with their most popular song, "Trojans," and an encore featuring "Electric."
Once their North American tour is complete, Atlas Genius will be heading to the studio to start album number two. Hopefully the hype continues to build, and their sophomore release brings them even more popularity.
The show at Bogarts proved that Atlas Genius is a force to be reckoned with in the world of Indie music.
