Film Buffs? Join the Club!

UCBA Film Club is reaching the end of its 1st year run with spring quarter. The Film Club is a joint effort between the E-media Department and the Foreign Language Department at UCBA. Led by Professor Matt Bennett and Professor Jody Ballah, the club has offered film screenings for students since fall 2011.

Every 2nd Wednesday in Muntz 257, the club chooses from a mixture of American and foreign films with an emphasis on French. It is open to all students with no particular course requirements. If you love movies this is a perfect way to add some extracurricular activities to your schedule. It offers students a little culture as well as entertainment and helps with language and history courses.

The Film Club has collaborated with certain faculty for extra credit opportunities. They show films that inspire cultural as well as educational expansion for students and it doesn't cost a penny (unless you want to buy snacks). At the beginning of the year, they teamed up with History of Modern Europe Professor Tim Forest to screen Kirsten Dunst in "Marie Antoinette."

Professor Ballah is deeply involved in the club and even participated at the NKU film festival this past week. She says her favorite screenings for the UCBA Film Club are, "'Le Place Vendome,' which is the first French film noir, featuring the great cinema actress, Catherine Devenue, and another is the 1974 American film Chinatown with Jack Nicholson."

They have high hopes for the Film Club for next fall and have already started planning. They have even opened a coinciding course on Monday nights called "Intro to French Films." Not only will you earn three credit hours, you will also get the chance to see amazing films and be a part of a film-loving community with the club.

On Wednesday May 9th, they will be showing a Japanese film in Muntz 257 from 3 to 6 p.m. They always have time afterward to discuss the film and attending is highly encouraged. You can contact Professor Matt Bennett or Professor Jody Ballah for more details.
