A director with a sense of style
A look into Quentin Tarantino's unique film style
Quentin Tarantino, director of many classic action movies, has a well-deserved reputation of making some of the most original and unique action films to ever hit the silver screen. "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs" were the first of his movies to make an impression on action seekers everywhere. More recently, the Kill Bill movies and "Inglorious Bastards" have made his work even more timeless, further entertaining his original audience and making fans from new generations. Every scene he writes and directs keeps audiences on the edge of their seats with unique dialog and extremely detailed action scenes. But for those who do not know much, or anything at all about Tarantino's work, they may just think his movies are just like other action movies. In some respects they are, but there is a reason why Tarantino's films have been regarded as some of the most original Hollywood has ever seen.
His attention to detail is remarkable. Everything that happens in his films has a purpose. He often reuses actors and actresses in his films for example, Uma Thurman was in "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill" and Eli Roth was in "Death Proof" and "Inglorious Bastards." But this never affects his movies negatively. His decisions on who should play what roles are very meticulous. Tarantino takes part in choosing everything right down to the music that will play in each scene, and, one of his better known details, the old 1970s muscle cars that appear in nearly all of his movies.
Tarantino's dialogue is one of his trademarks. The conversations he writes between characters flows so artistically and melodically, but never seems unnatural. The conversations between characters in his films are always themed and he uses an exorbitant amount of colorful adjectives. In conversations, Tarantino commonly has his characters telling intense and detail oriented stories, for example, in the beginning of Inglorious Bastards two characters are having a conversation about how a Jew and a rat and a hawk and a German are similar. It may seem like a dull conversation, but the way Tarantino writes it, the descriptions and details used, the audience knows that something very grim is about to happen. Consequently, immediately following the rat and hawk dialog, a whole family is killed by Nazi soldiers.
While his movies are graphic often filled with incredible fight sequences, Tarantino makes the women in his films the heroes or vigilantes of some sort. In Inglorious Bastards, the oldest daughter of the family who was killed ends up getting revenge on those who killed her family. In Kill Bill, a mother goes after the people who put her in a coma and kidnapped her child after massacring her wedding party at a dress rehearsal. In his lesser-known movie, Death Proof, three women hunt down a man, in a twenty minute car chase scene, who has been killing women using his 'death proof' vehicle. The roles he gives women are very empowering and show how women in action movies can create the same intense scenes that any male actor can.
Quentin Tarantino is one of the greatest directors to ever come to Hollywood. His unique sense of film style is refreshing and he always delivers a great film that can be watch over and over again. His newest film, Django Unchained, will be out this coming Christmas 2012.
