Style: Fall Fashion Do's and Don'ts

Guess who's back? Why yes, it's me. I'm back with plenty of snarky fashion reviews, helpful style tips and red carpet smack downs to go around.

It's October, and fall is in full swing. The leaves are changing colors, and the air is growing colder. And, as such, we've got a whole new set of fashion trends that hit the runway and will soon be hitting stores. But, as usual, the fashion designers don't always get it right. So why don't we take a quick peak into the hits and misses of the fall season?

Designers have been dressing women in blazers and coats with cinched waists, pleated dresses, plunging necklines, and fur. Yes to the blazers, no to everything else. Designers have been doing one thing right: the female tuxedo. While not every girl can pull off this look, it is worth a try. Bell-bottoms and wide leg pants have also been popping up all over the runways. To this I say: ladies, stay away from those pants. They're not flattering on anyone.

In the men's department, we saw lots of loosely tailored coats and pants. I'm sticking to my guns, gentlemen. Fitted is always better and much more suave-looking. Loose equals lazy, in my personal opinion. We also saw work wear (such as overalls and coveralls) becoming a trend. Um, excuse me? Say what? Not on my watch. Boys, stick to your guns. Overalls, coveralls and boiler suits should stay where they belong: at work. Thank you.

So, considering the fact that we all aren't able to buy designer labels, let's talk about fall fashion for the everyman and woman. Girls: stick to cute jackets (blazers? Yes please!) and scarves. Tights are great, as are skinny jeans, at this time of the year. When buying a jacket, make sure that it flatters your body type and keeps you warm. If it's too big, it won't flatter you. But, if it's too small, it won't keep you warm. Fall fashion is hard, considering you can do a lot. Here's my advice: keep your personal style in mind and don't forget how to layer properly. Always remember that you can look great and keep warm, despite popular belief.

For the gentlemen, I say buy yourself a good blazer or peacoat. Scarves are great, but just make sure that the color works with what you're wearing. Button-up, loose fitting sweaters with beanies can also be a good, comfortable look for the everyday grind.

Fall and winter are fun times to mix formal wear with casual. For instance, invest in a bow-tie and a good pair of suspenders. Both can spruce up a casual plaid shirt for any occasion.
