Sports: NFL Needs to Hold Players to Higher Standard

Hide your kids! Hide your wives! And hide your wallets now, because this mock- ery of a National Football League is out for your money, and they don’t care how they get it!

The National Football League is the highest paid sports league in the world, generating more than $980 million dollars in a year’s time. Closest to the NFL in rev- enue is the league promoted as “The Great- est Show on Earth,” known as the English Premier League, creating nearly half the revenue at an estimated $513 million a year.

Congrats, NFL, you make “bank.” But where are your morals? Set to take the field in possibly a week or two, and cash checks worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, is a child abuser, Adrian Peterson, a convicted batterer in Greg Hardy, and who knows how many other testosterone-injecting, mad men who were able to pay off the victims of their oh-so-heroic acts of passion? Hey, if Ray Lewis can get away with murder, what’s a couple abuse convictions, right?

Where do you draw the line? I thought kids were supposed to be look- ing up to these television icons. Now you want Mommy and Daddy to pay $80 per ticket and $100 per jersey, and for what? To support America’s favorite criminal not behind bars? Come on, man!

And don’t even get me started on this Ray Rice situation. If Raymell Maurice Rice is ever allowed to step foot in an NFL sanctioned event that’s not specifically promoting anger management or spou- sal therapy, I swear to the heavens I’ll fly my you-know-what to the front office of the NFL and voice my opinion for all to hear. Hold me to it.

In conclusion, because unfortunately there’s a limit on how many disgust-fu- eled words I can give you for this article, if the NFL players aren’t held to a higher standard starting in the near future, I think I’ll start taking my hard-earned cash elsewhere. To quote “Dumb and Dumb- er,” “I hear California’s beautiful this time of year.”

In the words of Fleetwood Mac, “Take your silver spoon, and dig your grave,” be- cause I’m not buying.
