On the Spot: Is College About Passion or Practicality
For this issue, we asked students if attending college was, for them, geared more toward practicality or passion.
Deborah Parson, Nursing
“It’s my passion. I have been wanting to go into nursing since Iwasakid. Now I’m
making it a reality. I want to help people and take care of the sick. I also love the spiritual aspect of nursing. I can pray for my patients to ensure that they’re not only getting healing on the inside and outside, but spiritual healing as well.”
Brian Gottesman, Rad-Tech
“Practicality. I’ve always wanted to be in healthcare and help people and work with people. Radiology Technology is a good field to go into, be- cause it’s not a lot of schooling and has room for improvement over time. I would love to go into chemotherapy, so that I could work with cancer patients though, but that’s six years instead of four. You’ve got to start somewhere.”
Emma Foy, Undecided
“I’m attending school for the pas sion that I have for helping people. I believe that there are people in the world that everybody chooses to ignore because it’s easier than dealing with it. I’m looking into so- cial work to help battle poverty and to offer assistance to underprivileged kids. I hope that more people will be interested in making a difference in our society.
Jacob Mathias, Information Technology
“I’m starting with Information Technology first, and then from there I hope to become a software engineer. I’ve wanted to de- sign software since I was a kid.
