Feature Student: Will Cochrane, A Spiritual Traveler
Traveling around the world is almost everyone's biggest dream. If you could travel to anywhere in the world where would you go?
UC student Wilson Cochrane has traveled many places that would be an awesome sight to see, including India, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Qatar, and last, but not least, Guatemala.
Wilson's father was a pastor. Being a child of a preacher is a lot harder than it looks, because you're being taught a religion that you want to believe in, but if you still have unanswered questions, you can feel a little lost or even depressed.
Wilson was a student on UC's Clifton campus in 2009. He could not figure out what he wanted to do with his life. Then, in January 2010 he joined a group in Jacksonville, Florida, called "YWAM," which stood for "Youth With a Mission."
"When I went to Jacksonville, I was not a Christian," stated Wilson. "[But] I heard a teaching there that spoke to me." Cochrane had to go to discipleship training school (DTS), where he spent 12 weeks in an actual classroom and then began traveling. He joined the group as a student but later became a leader and would take groups of 8 and sometimes 10 to different places in the world.
While visiting these places they would have feeding programs for the people in the slums. Wilson also helped administer medicine for people with tuberculosis.
Not only did he travel to explore the world and find out what he wanted to do, but he traveled to find himself. Being a Christian or even just believing in a religion doesn't mean you can't have questions. Having questions are a good thing, Wilson said. It just leaves room for more knowledge.
Wilson has traveled the world to find out more about Jesus and to have a better understanding about him. This was a life-changing experience for him and answered all the questions he had.
He is currently not traveling but leaves room for it in the future. If you need someone to reach out to or pray for you, Wilson Cochrane can be contacted via email at cochrawr@mail.uc.edu.
