The Web: For Those Who Haven't Tried Twitter
The Internet sensation called Twitter has become something well known in the eye of the public these days, from televi- sion commercials to radio commercials, and it can even be seen on some adver- tisement billboards, depending on the company as you’re driving down the road.
Twitter is an online social network that can be used as a sort of blog for “tweeting” about your day or what your plans are. Some companies may have a Twitter account to advertise to the people that can be found on Twitter.
The micro-blogging service averaged 271 million users in 2014 and has come a long way since March 21, 2006, when the four founders launched the website across the World Wide Web. This social network is usable by almost anyone, from children to teenagers to adults.
What you’re looking to follow on the website could determine how you use it. If you’re someone who wants to follow news accounts, you could get on Twitter to catch up on current events around you or even in other areas of interest.
Teenagers could use twitter to catch up with what their favorite movie stars are doing to even their favorite musicians. Children can get on and chat with family members and friends who may also have an account. There are security options to block people from following you and see- ing what you post, but you can also open everything you say to the public.
You can use hash tags to talk about current or trending topics and use them to scroll through what other people have to say about the topic you chose to “tweet” about and see if they have similar opinions about what you have to say. The instant communication aspect of Twitter can be very beneficial at rais- ing awareness for some things like breast cancer or even the more recent ASL foun- dation for Lou Gehrig’s disease, where people did the ice bucket challenge. That was something that went viral almost in- stantly on the social networking websites,
Twitter being one of them.
Most people are probably tired of see-
ing friends, relatives and even celebrities or athletes post about this, but this only shows the awareness there was, because it was all over the web at any given time.
UCBA actually has its own Twitter account. The College Twitter handle is @UCBlueAsh and if you are on Twitter you could follow the UCBA account to get in- formation about campus events.
Even better, follow the Activist’s Twitter account, @TheActivistUCBA. Even if you don’t have a Twitter account, you could find these accounts on the Twitter website and read up about current events in your free time.
The free Twitter social network is great and is something that can be used by any age and can also be tweaked for a user’s own interest.
